Lorig and Tritter for major Belfast conference on long term conditionsLTCANI, in cooperation with the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety, will be holding a major conference in Belfast on October 8, under the title 'Long Term conditions – working together'. Key themes will be user involvement, self management, and promoting greater understanding and cooperation between the voluntary and statutory sectors. Keynote speakers will include Professor Jonathan Tritter (Warwick University and the NHS Centre for Involvement) and Professor Kate Lorig of Stanford University, one of the world's leading authorities on self management. For further information contact LTCANI.Minister announces healthcare proposalsHealth Minister Michael McGimpsey MLA has announced his proposals for heath care reform in NI: http://www.northernireland.gov.uk/news/news-dhssps/news-dhssps-010708-health-and-social.htmThe proposals include a single Health and Social Care Board for Northern Ireland, replacing the exising four Boards, a regional Agency for Public Health and Social Wellbeing, and a single Patient Client Council for Northern Ireland, replacing the existing four Health and Social Service councils. The latter proposal is very much in line with LTCANI's submission to the Minister. The new bodies will have a clear duty to consult with those affected by their services, also very much in lines with LTCANI's comments. LTCANI meets Minister A delegation from LTCANI met with Michael McGimpsey MLA, Minister for Health Social Services and Public Safety, in May to discuss user involvement and the reform of health services in Northern Ireland.
